In 1960, the then minister of transport Ernest Marples introduced what was originally called the “Ten year test” . Following the end of the second world war he decided that there were too many old and unreliable vehicles on the road. The Mot test was aimed at vehicles once they reached ten years old. The aim was to check the brakes, steering and lights. Since that time, the Mot test has evolved and in 1967 the test became an annual inspection for passenger cars when they now reach just three years old.
The Mot test/examination takes approximately one hour. The test now includes vehicle emissions (first introduced in 1992) the steering, brakes, lights, wheels and tyres, corrosion and other safety related matters. The Mot test is a minimum observational check. Upon completion and successful pass, it does not however, guarantee the ongoing roadworthiness of the tested vehicle. The Mot test is a matter of interpretation and this often causes confusion with the consumer as opinions do differ from station to station. The Garden Village Garage uses high definition video, we deliver your results via email and text/SMS message quickly and clearly. This allows you to see and make balanced informed decisions on how best to get your car back home and back on the road.
We can, by appointment also offer collection and return delivery either from your local workplace or home. The Garden Village Garage provides collection and return delivery for all bookings in the CF14 and CF83 areas of North Cardiff, Caerphilly and Nantgarw. The Mot test should cost no more than £54.85 and it is one motoring cost that is Vat free because it is a government fee! When a vehicle service is booked or undertaken at the same time as the Mot test there is often a reduction in the overall cost.
