An engine diagnostic test and check

All modern cars now have a computer system that monitors the engine, brakes and almost every mechanical part on the car. The computer system is constantly updating information from the different sensors in the engine.  It also adjusts these as needed so the car will always run smooth and with no problems.

It is this computer system that also controls the engine management light on the dashboard. When there is a problem the computer cannot fix itself, it triggers the light so that a competent repairer can identify and solve the problem. The system, when connected to a diagnostic scanner will produce a code that can be used to identify the problem. The next step is to find the fault by completing an engine diagnostic test.

What happens during my car diagnostic check?

We have and use the latest technology in engine diagnostics because we can then work on any car model. We use a scanning tool to identify problems on nearly all makes of cars. We’ll scan your car, fix it and get you back on the road. To complete the diagnostic test, a scanner is inserted into the computer’s connector, usually located under the dash or behind the glovebox.

After inputting the vehicle information the car’s model, vehicle identification number (VIN), and engine type is entered into the scanner, it can then identify the diagnostic fault code. It is this code that helps our people to know where to look to find the problem. A car diagnostic can make finding an engine management problem much easier.

Hundreds of potential car problems

Diagnostic problem codes are a code of numbers and letters that a vehicle’s computer outputs when it finds a problem. These codes are transmitted by a vehicle’s on board diagnostics (OBD) system and can be read by using a diagnostic scanner. Nearly all vehicles made after 1996 comes equipped with an OBD computer. Vehicles are capable of relaying thousands of diagnostic trouble codes allowing the equipment to read them.
